IMPROVING GAS MIXING: HOW PBI-DANSENSOR AND DIS/CREADIS PARTNERED TO DEVELOP AN INNOVATIVE SOLUTION

PBI-Dansensor is a Danish company that specializes in modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) technology for the food industry. The company develops and manufactures gas mixers and analysis equipment that can mix up to three gases to create a protective atmosphere for packaged foods, preserving their quality after wrapping. PBI-Dansensor approached DIS/CREADIS to help develop a new gas mixer product that would improve accuracy, operation, and appearance.

Challenges

One of the challenges faced by PBI-Dansensor was developing a new gas mixer product that was water and dustproof while also meeting IP 45 standards – even with an active ventilator. Another challenge was to incorporate retrofit options, modularization, and customer-configurable solutions, which would significantly improve the maintainability of the product. Finally, product assembly time needed to be reduced by half.

Solution

DIS/CREADIS was involved to manage and perform the mechanical development and industrial design of the product, working closely with engineers from PBI-Dansensor. The new product employed an entirely new operating principle to advance accuracy, operation, and appearance of the gas mixer. Through the partnership, PBI-Dansensor was responsible for the software and hardware development of the gas mixer, while DIS/CREADIS provided strong mechanics, hardware, and software skills, as well as knowledge of industrial design.

Benefits

The partnership between PBI-Dansensor and DIS/CREADIS resulted in a product that is expected to revolutionize the gas mixer market. The gas mixer solution incorporated retrofit options, modularization, and customer-configurable solutions, which significantly improved the maintainability of the product. Additionally, the goal of reducing assembly time by half was achieved. The product is not only functional and reliable but aesthetically pleasing. It is also water and dustproof and, even with an active ventilator, it meets IP 45 standards.

Why DIS/CREADIS

DIS/CREADIS was chosen as a partner because of its strong mechanics, hardware and software skills, knowledge of industrial design, and IoT (Internet of Things) capabilities. The fact that DIS/CREADIS had 700+ engineers on staff with a wide breadth of engineering knowledge and competencies was a major advantage for PBI-Dansensor.

The new product is a perfect example of how combining expertise in different areas can lead to an innovative and successful product. The partnership has also strengthened the relationship between the two companies, which could lead to further collaboration in the future.
