SIEMENS GAMESA PARTNERS WITH ENGINEERING EXPERTS TO DEVELOP INNOVATIVE ADJUSTABLE LIGHT POLES FOR NEXT-GENERATION WIND TURBINES

Siemens Gamesa, a leading wind energy company, approached DIS/CREADIS with a challenge to develop adjustable light poles for their new generation of blades. The aviation warning lights had to be positioned higher to remain compliant with regulations due to an increase in blade length.

Challenges

The main challenge that Siemens Gamesa faced was the maintenance of aviation warning lights on longer poles without the use of cranes. They required a solution that would be easily accessible for maintenance crews and the exchange of parts. The solution had to comply with the required quality standards and be produced within a specific timeframe. Additionally, with the increasing demand for onshore and offshore wind power, there was a need for larger wind turbine generators at a tempo never seen in the industry.

Solution

DIS/CREADIS provided a mechanical solution that allowed for the adjustable positioning of the pole to a height that was accessible to maintenance crews. The team at DIS/CREADIS was responsible for the specifications, development, and manufacturing of the inverters and simulation parts required for the project. They coordinated and monitored the production, delivery, and installation of the units, and provided training to Siemens Gamesa employees. Siemens Gamesa was satisfied with the result and the adjustable poles are installed today.

Why DIS/CREADIS

DIS/CREADIS was chosen by Siemens Gamesa for their expertise in developing high-quality mechanical solutions. Their experience working on mechanical and electronic parts as well as product simulation made them the perfect choice for this project. DIS/CREADIS was not only responsible for the development of the adjustable light poles but also ensured that everything was produced according to the required quality standards. They found the most suitable manufacturing plant and made sure that everything was delivered as planned to each site where the new aviation light poles were needed.

Siemens Gamesa’s approach to renewable energy and their commitment to environmental objectives align with DIS/CREADIS’ core values. DIS/CREADIS has a proven track record of delivering high-quality solutions to their clients, and this project was no exception. They demonstrated their ability to coordinate and monitor the production, delivery, and installation of the units, and provided training to Siemens Gamesa employees, ensuring a smooth transition to the new aviation light poles.

OVERCOMING WIND TURBINE COMPONENT AS-BUILT DATA LIMITATIONS WITH SITE SCAN AND 3D CAD MODELS

The wind industry is no exception to the multiple handoffs of service contracts that can occur between Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs). One of our customers needed to develop a major component exchange procedure and maintenance documentation for an expired service contract of a wind turbine that had been taken over from one OEM by another. However, the customer faced limited access to as-built data, making this task challenging.

STIESDAL - GROUNDBREAKING FLOATING WIND TURBINE FOUNDATION DESIGNED TO BE COST EFFECTIVE, EASILY ASSEMBLED, AND SCALABLE

Renewable energy is poised to take center stage around the globe with wind generated power as one of its main sources. Until recently, wind farm projects have been limited to locations that are either onshore or in the shallow waters of the North Sea, the Chinese coastlines, and Eastern coast of the United States. Stiesdal, Shell, RWE, and TEPCO have partnered on the TetraSpar Demonstration Project to solve this problem and allow for wind generating turbines (WTGs) to be floated in deeper waters around the world. The TetraSpar Demonstration Project is a floating wind turbine prototype that is operational at the Marine Energy Test Centre (METcentre) near Stavanger, Norway.

PP TECHNIQ - SETTING A NEW INDUSTRY STANDARD IN BLADE ACCESS

PP Techniq A/S is a company that specializes in technical solutions for blade repair and maintenance in the wind industry. Wind turbine blades can be damaged or degraded by several factors including sand, ice, rain, sun, and lightning striking the moving blade and have serious adverse effects on its leading edge and structure. PP Techniq set out to set a new standard for blade access platforms and become a preferred solution in the blade repair market, both onshore and offshore. The platform needed to ensure minimum assembly time on site while still being flexible and without compromising safety for the crew working on the platform. To design this platform, PP Technique needed an engineering partner with extensive experience in the wind industry.
